France kicks off Euro 2024 with a 1-0 win over Austria

Mbappe suffers an injury scare as France wins

France kicked off their Euro 2024 campaign with a 1-0 win over Austria in Group D as a result of Max Wobers own goal.

Kylian Mbappe had to be substituted in the first half after suffering a facial injury, but Olivier Giroud's goal was enough to secure the win for France.

Victory puts France top of Group D, with Austria bottom after their opening day defeat.

The match was played in front of a sell-out crowd at the Stade de France, with the atmosphere electric from the start.

France started brightly and created a number of chances in the opening stages, with Mbappe going close on a couple of occasions.

However, it was Austria who had the best chance of the first half, when David Alaba hit the post with a free-kick.

France took the lead in the 26th minute, when Mbappe's cross was deflected into his own net by Wöber.

Mbappe was forced off injured shortly after, with Giroud replacing him.

Austria pushed for an equalizer in the second half, but France held on to claim the win.

The victory gives France a strong start to their Euro 2024 campaign, and they will now be looking to build on this result when they face Portugal in their next match.
